RENO -- Jeremy Wise scored 24 points and Renaldo Major added 22 as the Bakersfield Jam cruised to a 116-98 victory over the Reno Bighorns on Saturday.

Derrick Byars had 18 points, and Travis Leslie, who was assigned by the Los Angeles Clippers this week, had 12 points for Bakersfield.

Jordan Turner hit a monstrous, three-run home run in the first inning and Tyler Painton pitched seven strong innings to lead the Bakersfield College baseball team to a 5-2 victory Saturday night over West Los Angeles at Gerry Collis Field in the Western State Conference South opener for both teams.

Turner, who added a double in the sixth, launched a 400-foot blast to center field as the Renegades (10-3, 1-0 WSC) capitalized on two West L.A. (1-5) errors and a single by Elijah Trail to take a 4-0 lead.

LOVELAND, Colo. -- The Bakersfield Condors doubled up the Colorado Eagles 6-3, denying them a playoff berth for at least a few more days.

Bryan Pitton stopped 35 of 38 shots in the game, helping Bakersfield to its first win at the Budweiser Events Center and keeping his team's playoff hopes alive in the process.

That is until Saturday at Rabobank Arena, when Clovis blew by 226.5 points set a new mark of 256.5

Coleman Hammond sat down, and things started looking up for Bakersfield High.

Locked in a 1-1 match in Friday night's CIF State Wrestling Championship quarterfinals at Rabobank Arena, Hammond scrambled on top of his 152-pound opponent, Jorge Francis of Mountain View-St. Francis.

Isaiah Hokit stood on the floor of Rabobank Arena and looked up in the stands. One year ago that's where the then eighth grader sat as he watched the state wrestling tournament.

On Friday the 106-pound Wasco freshman was in the thick of the action, coming one match short of reaching the semifinals of the state championships.

Something has to give when Stockdale and Hanford high schools meet tonight for the CIF Central Section Division I girls basketball championship.

Stockdale, the top seed, has not lost a game this season to a Central Section opponent.

Three-time NHRA top fuel champion Larry Dixon Jr. never competed in a March Meet drag race, but he understood the importance of the event by the time he could spell March Meet.

That's because racing is what his father did and it was a family sport for the Dixons. Which meant the younger Dixon was weaned on racetracks.

CSU Bakersfield's baseball team had a players-only meeting prior to this weekend's series against the University of Portland.

"We've been quiet, lethargic," said sophomore catcher Cael Brockmeyer. "That's not who we are. We want to be up-tempo, more energetic."
