LOCAL REPORT: CSUB gives up four in eighth, falls to UC Santa Barbara

UC Santa Barbara broke a tie with four runs in the top of the eighth inning and went on to beat Cal State Bakersfield 7-3 Tuesday night at Hardt Field.

Alec Daily, who replaced CSUB starting pitcher Steven Gee in the seventh, struck out Robby Nesovic to open the eighth, but Nesovic reached base on a passed ball by catcher Cody White.

Juan Silva's RBI double with one out in the seventh inning tied the game and Kyle Waldrop added a sacrifice fly later in the inning that was the difference in the Bakersfield Blaze's 6-5 win over Inland Empire Monday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

It was the fifth straight win for Bakersfield, which has the California League's best record (24-8).

GREELEY, Colo. -- Austin Davis struck out eight in 82/3 innings and did not walk a batter, and got some help from closer Max Carter as the Cal State Bakersfield baseball team held off Northern Colorado 4-3 on Sunday at Jackson Field, completing a three-game sweep.

Davis (3-8) scattered eight hits and allowed three earned runs. he carried a 4-0 lead into the ninth before finally getting into trouble in the Western Athletic Conference game.

GREELEY, Colo. -- Chance Gusbeth hit a three-run home runs in the seventh and eighth innings and Soloman Williams also homered twice to power Cal State Bakersfield to a 19-7 Western Athletic Conference baseball win over Northern Colorado.

The Roadrunners (19-26 overall, 11-9 WAC) finished with 21 hits, the second-most in a game in the program's six-season history.

The Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks signed West High graduate A.J. Jefferson to a free-agent deal Friday, the team announced.

The Seattle Times reported that the 6-foot-1, 190-pound Jefferson likely will be used as a backup cornerback and kickoff and punt returner for the Seahawks.

SAN JOSE -- Ryan Wright ripped a two-run double in the 11th inning and Seth Mejias-Brean followed with an RBI single to lead the Bakersfield Blaze to a 6-3 victory over the San Jose Giants at Municipal Stadium.

The Blaze's Ryan Benedetto began the 11th with a single to right. Juan Silva then bunted right to relief pitcher Ryan Bradley (0-2), who spun and fired wildly into center field, putting runners at second and third with no outs, setting the table for Wright.
