BC, TBC Media team up on sports, football coverage

Bakersfield College and TBC Media, representing The Bakersfield Californian and its affiliated publications and digital products, will partner to bring Renegade football games in video to bakersfield.com for the 2014 season.

For the first time, all 10 of Bakersfield College's 2014 football games will be live streamed in video on Bakersfield.com and GoGades.com, where video highlights from the games will also be made available.

SEATTLE -- Austin Davis and Hayden Carter combined to hold Seattle University to just four hits as Cal State Bakersfield rolled to a 10-0 win on Saturday to close out the Western Athletic Conference regular season.

The Roadrunners (24-31) are at the WAC baseball tournament beginning Wednesday.

Juan Silva's RBI double with one out in the seventh inning tied the game and Kyle Waldrop added a sacrifice fly later in the inning that was the difference in the Bakersfield Blaze's 6-5 win over Inland Empire Monday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

It was the fifth straight win for Bakersfield, which has the California League's best record (24-8).

The Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks signed West High graduate A.J. Jefferson to a free-agent deal Friday, the team announced.

The Seattle Times reported that the 6-foot-1, 190-pound Jefferson likely will be used as a backup cornerback and kickoff and punt returner for the Seahawks.

BC's Choi qualifies for SoCal golf regionals

PASADENA -- Bakersfield College golfer Jeremy Choi qualified for the SoCal Regionals and earned all conference honors with a 36-hole total of 153 on Monday in the Western State Conference finals at Brookside Golf Club.

The Renegades finished seventh out of eight in the team competition. Jack Gilkey (74-79--153), Carlos Fernandez (74-83--157), Suraj Patel (74-88--162), Paul Cooper (76-86--162) and Robert Chavez (88-82--170) competed in the event for BC.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Cal State Bakersfield split a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader Friday afternoon at Kansas City, losing the first game 9-3 and winning the second game 5-4.

Jessica Castaneda's three-run home run in the first inning, her fourth of the season, helped CSUB (15-37-1, 4-10 WAC) build a 4-0 lead by the second inning and Castaneda scored the winning run in the seventh inning on Madison Bundy's RBI double.

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Kansas State salvaged a split of its two-game series vs. Cal State Bakersfield with a 13-0 non-conference baseball win Tuesday night.

The Roadrunners (16-23) were outhit 17-10. Kansas State (23-19) had a bases-loaded triple by Max Brown in the second inning and the Wildcats pulled away after that, scoring three runs with two outs in the fourth and made it a rout with five in the eighth.

BC women capture WSC title

The Bakersfield College women's swim team captured the Western State Conference title, with the men's team finishing third in the conference championships at L.A. Valley College.

The Renegades' Matthew Moon was named the WSC coach of the year.

EDINBURG, Texas -- James Barragan pitched 5-2/3 innings of scoreless relief and Cal State Bakersfield came from behind to edge Texas-Pan American 3-2 Friday in a Western Athletic Conference baseball game.

The Roadrunners (15-21 overall, 8-6 WAC) won for only the third time in 14 road games this season.

BC women lead in WSC meet

VAN NUYS -- Bakersfield College was leading the women's team standings and was third in the men's after Thursday's first day of the Western State Conference swimming and diving championships at L.A. Valley College.

The women's highlight was a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Shelby Bayne, Elizabeth Hargis, Ashley Foster and Clarissa Gardella timed 1:39.64.

The popular "Brains of Bakersfield" trivia competition that has been coordinated by the Cal State Bakersfield men's soccer program each year will return on May 15 in the Icardo Center.

Registration has begun. This year's event will include a catered meal from Lengthwise Brewing Company, featuring tri-tip, pulled pork and macaroni and cheese. Lengthwise will also have its beer and Zeus Imperial Ale on tap and available for purchase.

STOCKTON -- Blaze right-hander Ben Lively pitched six shutout innings and Bakersfield broke the game open with a four-run eighth to beat Stockton 8-3 Wednesday night.

At 11-3, the Blaze has the best record in the California League and Wednesday's win ensured that Bakersfield will win its fourth straight series to open the season.

The Bakersfield Blaze fell behind big early, and made it interesting late before ultimately having the final out recorded in a rundown, and the Stockton Ports grabbed the opener of a three-game series by the final score of 7-5 at Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton.

Facing Ports starter Tim Atherton (W, 1-0) for the second time in a week, the Blaze figured to have their hands full, and after a quick start for the bats, Atherton took control.

Bakersfield College scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally past Antelope Valley College 6-3 in a Western State Conference South baseball game Tuesday at Gerry Collis Field.

The Renegades (10-18 overall, 6-10 WSC South) took the lead on Kaidan Meadows’ two-run, bases-loaded single. RBI doubles by Zach Tanner and Junior Felix later in the inning made it 6-3. Felix also had an RBI double in the sixth.
